MUOS ( Mobile User Objective System) is a military ultra-high-frequency satellite communications system built by the United States Department of Defense that enables enhanced long distance communication with drones.
It is located in Niscemi, Sicily, the last of 4 ground stations to be completed (the others are in Virginia, Hawaii and Australia).
The photograph was taken during a demonstration on August 9, 2013 followed by a peaceful occupation of the military base in protest of the construction of the ground station
